Energy Storage Coalition Welcomes LDES Council as Partner to Accelerate Energy Storage Deployment in Europe

Brussels, 21 January 2025 – The Energy Storage Coalition is proud to announce that the Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Council, a global organisation dedicated to advancing long-duration energy storage technologies has joined the organisation as partner. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the Energy Storage Coalition’s mission to accelerate the decarbonisation of the European energy system by increasing the deployment of sustainable and clean energy storage solutions to support renewables.

The LDES Council brings its deep expertise in championing long-duration energy storage systems, essential for enabling Europe’s transition to a net-zero energy system. “We are thrilled to welcome the LDES Council as a partner” said Thomas Otuszewski, interim Executive Director of the Energy Storage Coalition. “LDES Council contribution will strengthen our collective voice in advocating for ambitious and actionable policies to scale up energy storage across Europe.”

As the EU pushes for decarbonisation and energy security, energy storage is vital to overcoming challenges such as grid reliability, renewable energy intermittency, and rising energy costs.

The LDES Council becomes the latest partner to join the Energy Storage Coalition, building on the strong foundation established by the four founding partners, SolarPower Europe, The European Association for Storage of Energy, WindEurope, and Breakthrough Energy.
