Webinar “Shaping the Future of Energy Storage: Policy Priorities for 2024 – 2029”

More than 270 people joined us for the presentation of the Energy Storage Coalition’s policy manifesto for the period 2024-2029.

We delved into pressing issues facing the energy storage sector and heard from industry representatives about what is needed to foster the deployment of energy storage in Europe, touching upon Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), regulatory burdens, and capacity markets.

Sofia Tavares underlined the diversity of storage technologies available to address a variety of challenges with a focus on how thermal storage helps energy-intensive industries decarbonise. Julian Jansen touched upon the importance of ensuring long-term revenues, including via capacity markets, to allow for a faster scaling of the energy storage infrastructure in Europe. Finally, Felix Dembski covered the common and yet relatively simple-to-fix issue of double charging.

We also had the pleasure of fostering a stimulating conversation with Nicolás González Casares, Member of the European Parliament and rapporteur on the Electricity Market Design, who answered without filter about the achievements of the reform but also what remains to be done and its vision for renewable energy and storage.

With the European elections on the horizon, this event served as a platform for dialogue between policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders and an opportunity to gain insights into the strategies and policies driving the industry forward.
